The Mets awoke from their homestretch coma and defeated the Marlins 13-0 this afternoon at Shea Stadium in Queens, NY. Maybe that news was a downer for the Phillies. Maybe they were disappointed that they would not be able to clinch the division title with a win in today’s game with Washington. Maybe they were […]
Black Tie - One game to decide it all
No let up, Phils win 6-0. Magic Number = 2
The Phillies stepped onto the field for last night’s game with DC in first place for the first time this season. After climbing uphill for 159 games, they had a chance to take a huge step towards winning the division. For that task, they turned to their ace, Cole Hamels. In a season where their […]
Mets Bad Kharma
It is bad baseball kharma to cancel a game due to rain, when it is not raining. The Mets did that on June 28, in a game with
St. Louis, so that they could set up their rotation to face the Phils in the next three games. The Mets swept that series with the Phils, […]
Phirst Place Phils!
The Phillies opened up a weekend block party last night by kicking dirt on John Smoltz and the Braves season. Smoltz helped to dig a hole with a throwing error in the first that let Jimmy Rollins come around from first base to score. He fielded Shane Victorino’s bunt on the third base line, spun […]
Lohse’s turn to shine in win over Braves
Last night, the Phillies crept one game closer to the Mets, as they beat the Braves 5-2 and the Mets lost to the Washington Nationals, 9-6, after blowing a 5-0 lead. Kyle Lohse pitched 7 complete innings and Flash, JC and Brett locked it down in relief. The Phillies are behind by 1 game each […]
Why Charlie? Why?
With the finish line fast approaching and the Phillies still trailing the Padres and Mets, despite their recent wins in 8 of 9, how does Charlie Manuel turn over Sunday’s game to Kane Davis??
I tuned in first in the 6th with the Phils down 3-2. I learned that Hamels had left after 5 and had […]
Close Enough to Count - Phillies Are Just 1 Game Out
I am eating my words. I said a week ago, after the second Mets sweep , that I was not going to let the Phillies get me wrapped up in their playoff chase until they had found a way to get on top of the heap of contenders for the wild card or the division. […]
Again, the Phillies Punch out the Mets
Not again. Not me. Not this time. Don’t think that I am ungrateful. I am not. I was not raised that way.
I spent the day at a family reunion with my brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins that I have not seen in some time. It was […]
Phillies Get Another Pitcher Injury
Kyle Kendrick was drilled in the side of his right knee with a line drive and had to be helped off of the field. The diagnosis after an X Ray was that it is just a contusion and he will be day to day. The ball was hit way hard and made a nasty […]
An Average Phillies Season
Here we are, in September, neck sore and wind whipped by this slightly under-maintained thrill ride. The Phils are 73-66. That is a .525 winning percentage. Very average, and in reality, it is a remarkable feat that they are over .500. It is a tribute to the volume of offense that is regularly produced by […]

Just for a laugh!
- Dan Rather, Katie Couric, and a tough Marine Sergeant were all captured by terrorists in Iraq. The leader of the terrorists told them that he would grant them each one last request before they were beheaded. Dan Rather said, "Well, I'm a Texan; so I'd like one last bowlful of hot spicy chili." The leader nodded to an underling who left and returned with the chili. Rather ate it all and said, "Now I can die content." Katie Couric said, "I'm a reporter to the end. I want to take out my tape recorder and describe the scene here and what's about to happen. Maybe someday someone will hear it and know that I was on the job till the end." The leader directed an aide to hand over the tape recorder and Couric dictated some comments. She then said, "Now I can die happy." The leader turned and said, "And now, Mr. Marine tough guy, what is your final wish?" "Kick me in the ass," said the Marine. "What?" asked the leader? "Will you mock us in your last hour?" "No, I'm not kidding. I want you to kick me in the ass," insisted the Marine. So the leader shoved him into the open, and kicked him in the ass. The Marine went sprawling, but rolled to his knees, pulled a 9 mm pistol from under his flack jacket, and shot the leader dead. In the resulting confusion, he jumped to his knapsack, pulled out his M4 carbine and sprayed the terrorists with gunfire. In a flash, all of them were either dead or fleeing for their lives. As the marine was untying Rather and Couric, they asked him, "Why didn't you just shoot them in the beginning? Why did you ask them to kick you in the ass first?" What???" replied the Marine, "and have you two assholes report that I was the aggressor?"
