The Phils made a trade with Ed Wade in his new role as GM of the Astros, obtaining closer Brad Lidge and infielder Eric Bruntlett for Geoff Geary, Michael Bourne and minor league 3rd baseman Mike Costanzo .
The move puts Lidge in the back of the bullpen and Brett Myers back in the rotation.

Charlie Manuel Gets a Contract Renewal
Charlie Manuel’s contract has been renewed for 2 years through 2009, with a club option for a third year. In his third year as skipper, Manuel guided the Phightins to the NL East crown and into the playoffs for the first time since 1993. That achievement was hard fought, as the team battled through many […]
An Exciting Phillies Season Ended by Rockies
Last night in Denver, the Colorado Rockies completed the first step to the World Series. They defeated the Phils 2-1, in a pitchers duel ironically, and completed the NLDS sweep. The Phillies ran into a buzz saw that won’t be beaten by the D’backs.
“To be within one strike of being eliminated (with a San Diego […]
Was Manuel right to yank Kyle Kendrick in the 4th?
Kyle Kendrick had a 3-2 lead in the 4th inning, with a man on 2nd and 2 outs. The next 2 batters got on to load the bases. The first was the catcher Torrealba, who got a head in the count 3-1, and was then intentionally put on. The next batter was rookie Seth Smith, […]
Breaking News - Rockies Reliever’s Hands are Dirty
This is a breaking story out of yesterday’s Phillies game 1 loss to the Rockies. The Phillies brass is yet to comment, and the Rockies management is secluded while they try to devise a strategy to deal with what may be the latest cheating scandal in professional sports.
Rockies reliever Manny Corpas has been caught doctoring his […]
Phillies Hung Over
Like a groom at the alter after a Vegas bachelor party the night before, the Phillies seemed to be just trying to get through today’s opener of the NLDS. In the end they did not pass out on the bride but they also did not look perky in losing 4-2. This has been a triumphant […]
Division Playoff Schedule
To understand the problems that baseball has in growing its audience, you need to look no further than the schedule for the 2007 Divisional Playoffs.

What ass decided that baseball games should begin at 9:30 or 10:00 PM? If you want to attract new fans (and especially kids) to the sport, you may want to take advantage […]
The Final Outs of 2007 - NL East Champs!
I listened to an audio only recording of Harry Kalas calling this at bat and it was awesome to hear the crowd roaring as Harry made the call. He was so excited. This is a view from the stands and it is really cool as well.

Just for a laugh!
- Dan Rather, Katie Couric, and a tough Marine Sergeant were all captured by terrorists in Iraq. The leader of the terrorists told them that he would grant them each one last request before they were beheaded. Dan Rather said, "Well, I'm a Texan; so I'd like one last bowlful of hot spicy chili." The leader nodded to an underling who left and returned with the chili. Rather ate it all and said, "Now I can die content." Katie Couric said, "I'm a reporter to the end. I want to take out my tape recorder and describe the scene here and what's about to happen. Maybe someday someone will hear it and know that I was on the job till the end." The leader directed an aide to hand over the tape recorder and Couric dictated some comments. She then said, "Now I can die happy." The leader turned and said, "And now, Mr. Marine tough guy, what is your final wish?" "Kick me in the ass," said the Marine. "What?" asked the leader? "Will you mock us in your last hour?" "No, I'm not kidding. I want you to kick me in the ass," insisted the Marine. So the leader shoved him into the open, and kicked him in the ass. The Marine went sprawling, but rolled to his knees, pulled a 9 mm pistol from under his flack jacket, and shot the leader dead. In the resulting confusion, he jumped to his knapsack, pulled out his M4 carbine and sprayed the terrorists with gunfire. In a flash, all of them were either dead or fleeing for their lives. As the marine was untying Rather and Couric, they asked him, "Why didn't you just shoot them in the beginning? Why did you ask them to kick you in the ass first?" What???" replied the Marine, "and have you two assholes report that I was the aggressor?"
