Last night, the Phillies crept one game closer to the Mets, as they beat the Braves 5-2 and the Mets lost to the Washington Nationals, 9-6, after blowing a 5-0 lead.  Kyle Lohse pitched 7 complete innings and Flash, JC and Brett locked it down in relief. The Phillies are behind by 1 game each in the wild card and division races. In late July and August, I was counting and calculating what the Phils needed to do to get to 90 wins. I figured 90 would likely put them in the playoffs. It looked like an  impossibility at times due to the pitching. At the end of that stretch of poor play, right after the first Mets sweep, I stopped. I was very bummed out at how they responded after that awesome Mets series.
Now, it’s late September and with 86 wins and four to play, they still have a chance to get there. The lineup just does not quit. It seems that the team gets a quality start from every other starter, not named Kendrick or Hamels, on every other start, but they still keep winning. It has been an amazing month.

Oh yeah and what are the Rockies smoking? They couldn’t win out could they?
