From the NY Daily News:
WALKS THE LINE: After watching LB Mathias Kiwanuka struggle through the first two games, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuologot creative with how he used the former DE, and as a result, Kiwanuka had a a team-high eight tackles and two sacks.A key part of Kiwanuka’s resurgence appeared to be the fact that he played more often on the defensive line, including at defensive tackle quite often in the second half. In fact, one of his sacks came when he and speedy defensive end Justin Tuck lined up at tackle, with Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan on the outside - a devastating pass rushing combination.Coughlin wouldn’t make the connection between Kiwanuka’s improvement and the number of times he lined up at his old position. But he did admit the second-year man out of
Boston College was in position to make plays more than before. “He was basically where he should have been the majority of the time,” Coughlin said. “You want to be in a position where the quarterback decides he can’t go down the field and he pulls it down and someone is in position to make a play. He was there and I thought he was real aggressive.”
It looks like the Giants have decided to adjust his transition to linebacker and use him in ways in which he is more comfortable and successful. It worked last week and will be a challenge for the Birds interior line this week if they use it again.
The article also focuses on Plaxico Burress and his impact on the Giants comeback last week. Burress always is trouble for the Eagles CBs. The injury plagued unit will have their work cut out for them again. Of course, if the offense scores 24 first quarter points or so, that would make it easier.
